The Advanced Computing Group at the University of Maine has been formed to provide computing infrastructure and support for the research needs of the state of Maine.The compute resources reside in the newly renovated UMS Data Center in Orono.

ACG provides complete computing power packages to advance research, education, and Maine into the 21st century. Services include: High Performance (parallel) Computing (HPC), Cloud Computing with virtual machines (VM), data storage and high resolution visualization technology (vWALL).

A brief history of the formation of the Advanced Computing Group:

  • Formally created in July 2013

  • Located at the UMaine Campus in Orono, Maine
  • Formal agreement between (and funding from) UMaine, UMS, and Maine

  • Institutionalized what Bruce Segee and others have been doing ad hoc for 10 years
